Greetings from the Heirloom Software team!

Well, it’s the beginning of November and time for another of our periodic updates.  Here’s what we’ve got to share this time around:

  • A video demo of the latest version of Origins in action
  • Kickstarter Update – Universal Genealogy Translator

Kickstarter Update – Universal Genealogy Translator

As we mentioned in our last update, we’re going to be outsourcing the development of the Universal Genealogy Translator tool so we can stay focused on core Origins development.  If you don’t recall what UGT is all about, it’s our free tool that will allow you to move your research data (including Notes, Media, etc) from one genealogy software application to another with much higher fidelity than using a simple GEDCOM.

If you’re not familiar with Kickstarter, it is a crowdsourcing platform for raising money to fund projects.  The idea is that you can get lots of people to each contribute a small amount of money to support a project they like so the project will be funded and can move forward.

We’re just about ready to kick this off, I would expect to see it announced next week or the week after.  We’ll send out another update specifically about the Kickstarter project once it goes live.

Video Demo – see Origins in Action!

We needed to put together a short demonstration of Origins for the Roots Tech Innovators Showcase (thanks to everyone who nominated us!) and wanted to share it with all of you, too.  The video is about 11 minutes and covers a walkthrough of Origins with a voiceover (by Dave) explaining different parts of the application as it currently stands.  As you’ll see, things are looking pretty good, though we still have a good amount of work to do.

We’d love to hear your thoughts, but remember that this is still a work in progress and most things are not up to a final release-quality.

Thank You!

As always, thank you for the incredible support you’ve given us.  With your help, we are well on our way to creating the greatest genealogy software on the planet!

Thanks,
Dave & Lil
