It’s been another busy couple of weeks here at Heirloom Software. We’re continuing to move full-speed ahead, making great progress. It’s been a long road already, and we still have quite a way to go, but we’re expecting to rollout a limited-availability alpha, or “feature-preview” release somewhere around the middle of June. We’ll have more details about what this will entail, as well as how you can sign up to be a tester of this very early version in our next newsletter. After that comes a more-public beta, which is currently slated for early July, though my gut tells me we may make that another alpha and have a more complete beta in August. It’s a quickly evolving target, though, so stay tuned for additional updates.
In the meantime, here’s a look at what we’ve been up to:
Development Progress: We’re continuing to work through the development of the “People” section of Origins. This section includes all of the functionality related to the people in your tree – facts, trees, person and family profiles, etc. Other sections in Origins will include Research, Social Media, Reports, and more. People is without a doubt the most important, and also the biggest section, so we’re taking our time, collecting all of the feedback we can, and making sure we get this right. It is slow going, but we keep moving forward, so while I won’t hazard a guess as to how much work still remains, we keep crossing things off our to-do list, so I figure that’s good.
Blog Post: Smart Fields: Dates. A first look at how we’re going to make genealogist’s lives easier with regard to entering data. Personally, I’m pretty excited about this.
Blog Post: Date Formats. More on date handling in Origins, this time on the ways we’ll let you enter date values and some information on how we’ll parse them into a standard format.
Blog Post: Facts: An Overview. A first look at how Origins will help you out with Facts, Sources and Citations. This doesn’t yet cover managing all Sources and Citations in your tree, but we’ll be getting to that shortly.
That’s the update for this week. We have a lot going on, but we’re always open to feedback, ideas, questions, etc. Here are the different ways you can get ahold of us: http://www.heirloomsoftware.com/contact/

Until next time…thanks for your interest and support.
